{"id":10123,"date":"2021-05-06T08:54:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-06T08:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eurotransis.com\/what-are-the-types-of-planned-obsolescence\/"},"modified":"2024-11-07T15:59:01","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T14:59:01","slug":"what-are-the-types-of-planned-obsolescence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eurotransis.com\/en\/what-are-the-types-of-planned-obsolescence\/","title":{"rendered":"What are the types of planned obsolescence?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<strong>planned<\/strong> <strong>obsolescence\u00a0<\/strong>refers to the time when in product, usually technological, electronic or appliance type,\u00a0<strong>stop working\u00a0<\/strong>by being\u00a0<strong>intentionally manufactured\u00a0<\/strong>to have or lifetime or concrete usability.\u00a0It\u00a0is\u00a0not\u00a0that defects have arisen due to use, those faults that arise are known in advance by the manufacturer, of the device or of any part of it.\u00a0In addition to ensuring that the failure occurs after a time or\u00a0number\u00a0of uses,\u00a0planned\u00a0obsolescence\u00a0also takes into account that there are no replacement parts, or that the repair is\u00a0more expensive than a new appliance.\u00a0With all this, what is intended is that we have to\u00a0<strong>renew from time to time, a controlled and programmed time, almost any device that we buy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Planned obsolescence can include both the\u00a0<strong>hardware of the device\u00a0<\/strong>(component, chips, mechanical systems) and the\u00a0<strong>software<\/strong>.\u00a0Many Smartphone or tablet users know that there comes a time when the device can no longer update an operating system and stops being functional or begins to fail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Planned obsolescence<\/strong> is a procedure considered <strong>unethical<\/strong>, because externally it may appear to be of good quality despite having, already from the factory, that <strong>\u201cprogramming\u201d to fail<\/strong>, usually an irreplaceable or repairable component. On the other hand, it is also true that the lowering of the production costs of certain goods and their low sale prices have made the user accept the fact that, so to speak, what they have just bought has the days counted; although this is valid only for small appliances. In fact, according to 2019 data from the Eurobarometer, about 80% of the European population believes that technology manufacturers should be required to be able to repair devices and have spare parts for it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To this we have to add\u00a0<strong>environmental awareness.\u00a0<\/strong>The fact that both socially and politically worries global warming and we are aware of the direct effect that our linear way of consuming\u00a0(manufacture-consume-throw away) has\u00a0on the emission of greenhouse gases.\u00a0This has led to initiatives to create regulations that address planned obsolescence.\u00a0From the European Parliament, proposals have been initiated to legislate on the obligation of manufacturers to have spare parts and that the manufacturing process allows the repair of electronic devices.\u00a0This initiative has been called \u201cRight<strong> to repair\u201d<\/strong>.\u00a0It is proposed to include a\u00a0<strong>label with the\u00a0repairability\u00a0index on\u00a0<\/strong>electronic devices;\u00a0it may be similar to the energy label.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This way of producing-using-repairing is more in line with the new circular economy models based on the design of the product to be manufactured is made in such a way that it can be\u00a0<strong>reused, repaired and that all its parts can be recycled\u00a0<\/strong>.\u00a0It is a procedure that aims to\u00a0<strong>reduce the input of raw materials\u00a0<\/strong>in the production system,\u00a0<strong>reducing costs\u00a0<\/strong>(energy, water, etc.) and promoting a\u00a0<strong>more sustainable industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At <strong>Eurotransis<\/strong>, we have been fulfilling the commitments with our clients for years, adjusting to the requirements, verifying the production process and following strict quality control.
